What is a cookie?

A cookie is a message sent by a website to your web browser that the browser then stores on your hard drive. Each time you visit that website the message is sent back to website's server so it can use the information to customise your visit.

How do I enable them?

The Card House website uses cookies to enable you to customise the colour scheme. If you wish to change the colours you will need to have cookies enabled. On most browsers these are enabled by default, or are set such that the browser will ask you whether to accept cookies from the current site. If they aren't enabled, then you can enable them on Internet Explorer or Firefox as follows:

Internet Explorer
  1. Select 'Options' from the 'Tools' menu
  2. Click on the 'Privacy' tab
  3. Move the slider down so that the setting is Medium High or below
Alternatively, on the privacy tab select Sites and add thecardhouse.co.uk to the list of sites allowed to create cookies.
Firefox
  1. Select 'Options' from the 'Tools' menu
  2. Click on the 'Privacy' icon
  3. Click on the 'Cookies' tab
  4. Tick the 'Allow sites to set Cookies' box

How does The Card House use them?

The Card House website uses cookies to keep track of your favoured colour scheme. Two cookies are used for this purpose. One when the Preview button is pressed, and a second when the Set Theme button is pressed.

The preview cookie is set on your computer when you press the Preview button on the customisation page. This cookie expires after 30 mins (plenty of time to have a quick look around the site to see if you like the new scheme) or is removed when the Set Theme button is pressed. This cookie contains the internal name for the selected colour scheme only.

The chosen theme cookie is set on your computer when you press the Set Theme button on the customisation page. This cookie expires after 2 years, and also contains the internal name for the selected colour scheme.

No personal information is ever stored in cookies created by The Card House.
